Hackney studio leads community effort to dress the NHS

Updated: Mar 30, 2020

A creative studio teaching sewing in Hackney has drafted in a community of locals to make well-needed extra scrubs for the NHS.

Make Town has uploaded a PDF to its website on how to make scrubs and recruited an army of nimble-fingered volunteers armed with sewing machines and blue cloth.

Make Town Founder Brooke Dennis wrote on Facebook: “They say team work makes the dream work and I am so stoked to have the sewing community in my team."

She added: “Nothing like a virus to bring us together.”

It followed an urgent plea from hospital staff who said there was a national shortage of scrubs.

If you’re good at sewing and have a machine with an over locker, visit https://make.town to volunteer.
